Anon left all of these questions in my inbox in a number of messages asking me to answer them. So I did. Here ya go.
Have you been baptized? If so, when? I was baptized in February of 2010.
If you had to chose one, what’s your favorite book in the Bible? That’s always changing, but Job is a consistent favourite.
What type of sin did you struggle with before coming to Christ? I don’t really like the wording of this question because sin is going to be a struggle for as long as we are on this side of Heaven, but I’d probably say lust and pride.
Have you ever tried out other religions? What did you think of them? No, I haven’t. Even when I wasn’t properly a Christian, I always considered myself to be one. However, I have studied other religions so I am not completely ignorant to them.
Do you have a specific denomination? If yes, why do you choose that one? If no, why don’t you choose one? No, I don’t. Because at the end of the day, there’s just Jesus.
Do you believe the spiritual gifts such as tongues and prophecy are still active today? Yes, but only in the appropriate fashion as illustrated in Scripture.
Are your family believers? My mom and my dad are.
Have you ever been a member of a church? If yes, how many? Do you still attend that church? Not an actual member, no.
How do you feel about abortion? I don’t agree with it and I consider it to be murder.
Do you agree with the separation of church vs. state in the United States? Yes, not only in the states, but in my own country as well.
What’s your favorite name from the Bible? I don’t know if I have one …haha. I like the name Jude? But not for Biblical reasons. For Beatles reasons.
Who is your favorite person in the Bible, besides God/Jesus/Holy Spirit? I really admire Solomon’s wisdom. But I still always go back to Job, he’s such an example of living out strong and true faith, no matter how bad things get.
Which biblical person do you feel most connected to? Is there one in particular that reminds you alot of yourself? Maybe it’s terribly stereotypical or maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I like to think that if the right situation presented itself, I’d make the same sort of choices Esther would.
What’s your favorite Proverb/Psalm? Psalm 56. The whole thing, but specifically verses 1-4. Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me; my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
Which biblical command is hardest for you to follow in your life? Love those who persecute you. I’m too prideful to properly answer this one.
What sin is currently the hardest for you to remove for your life? Pride.
When did you know that following Christ was worth it? It wasn’t until a couple of years ago. I had entered a new phase in my life and I was learning a lot. It’s a long story, but I essentially realized that I was trying to do it all on my own and it wasn’t working out that way. God had shown me how depraved I was and He gave me two options; follow Him or follow everything else. Humbled by His Grace, I chose the former.
If you had to use one sentence to explain to someone why following Christ is worth it, what would you say? His Love and Grace covers everything this world has to offer.
How do you interpret the Bible? Literally? Figuratively? Cultural Context? Depends on the book. Most of the time I read it with knowledge of it’s cultural context and I acknowledge that with different writers, there are obviously going to be varying styles of writing. But overall, I at least acknowledge that the resounding purpose behind it all is Christ.
Why do you feel that following Jesus as Lord and Savior different than every other religion in the world? It’s not something I feel, rather something I know through experience and through reading His Word.
I am but a child in the hands of my Lord Oh, he carries me through rushing rivers, takes me home When I cannot see, will my faith sustain? I will find my strength in your love, oh, in your love
My relationship with Jesus should be much more important to you than my doctrine. The fruit I am bearing should always have precedent over whether or not my beliefs line up with your theological understandings.
